We’re thrilled to share that St John’s Coffee Shop has been nominated for a tourism award! 🎉
Our nomination highlights our “unique community-driven approach and commitment to supporting local heritage” — words that mean a lot to us, because that’s exactly what we set out to do.
The Best of British Getaways Awards, run annually by SME News, celebrates the independent businesses that make Britain special; from hidden-gem cafés to charming holiday stops. To be recognised among them feels like a wonderful nod to what’s happening here at St John’s.
Behind the scenes, the research and evaluation team are now reviewing entries from across the UK. Winners are chosen for their creativity, dedication, and customer experience… and awards are given both for specific categories and for overall excellence. We’ll be keeping everything crossed as they make their decisions over the next few months!
For us, this nomination isn’t just about coffee and cake… it’s about keeping our local heritage alive. Every latte, every slice, and every Saturday spent at the coffee shop helps sustain St John’s Church, a landmark that has stood at the heart of our community for generations.
The coffee shop began as a volunteer-run effort to help pay the church’s bills and preserve its legacy… and it’s grown into a friendly meeting place where history, hospitality, and community spirit all come together.
Whatever happens next, we’re just proud… proud of how far our little outdoor café has come, proud of the volunteers who make it happen, and proud of the customers who keep coming back with smiles (and cake forks) at the ready.
