This weekend we’re mixing sweetness with remembrance. As the nation marks 80 years since VJ Day – the day the Second World War came to a close – we’re serving up cakes with a side of gratitude.
Yesterday, the King and Queen led a two-minute silence in Staffordshire, veterans shared their stories, and the Red Arrows soared overhead in tribute. Their message was simple: those who served will never be forgotten.
Here at St John’s Coffee Shop, we’re remembering in our own way – by gathering together, sharing stories, and enjoying some seriously good bakes.
Here’s this week’s line-up:
🍊 Bee’s Orange Cake – bright, zesty, and full of cheer.
🌸 Bee’s Kuih Bahulu (Malaysian cake) – a golden sponge with heritage.
🍎 Carolyn’s Apple & Cinnamon – warm, spiced, and comforting.
🎂 Diane’s Victoria Sponge (GF) – a wartime classic with a gluten-free twist.
🍓 Esther’s Raspberry & White Chocolate Blondies – sweet, sharp, and irresistible.
🌾 Kate’s Flapjack (Vegan & GF) – chewy, wholesome, and full of heart.
🍫 Kate’s Fudgy Chocolate Brownies (GF & Dairy Free) – rich enough to stop you mid-conversation.
🍋 Jackie’s Lemon Drizzle – sharp, sweet, and timeless.
🍑 Jackie’s Plum Cake – juicy fruit baked into soft sponge.
🥕 Nicki’s Carrot Cake x 2 – back by demand, because one just won’t do!
🍒 Nicki’s Bakewell Loaf – almond, jam, and nostalgia in every bite.
🌰 Sarah’s Almond Cookies – small but full of crunch.
💚 Sue’s Pistachio & Lemon Cake – tangy, nutty, and memorable.
So this Saturday, why not join us? Raise a fork to friendship, freedom, and cake worth remembering.
