October is settling in, the countryside around Adlington is starting to look autumnal, and our cake counter will once again be doing its very best to tempt you to visit.
And this week there’s a little something to look forward to when the sun goes down too.
The Draconid meteor shower is active during this week and, unusually for a meteor shower, it is best seen in the evening rather than in the early hours. The shower reaches its peak around Thursday, while Saturday brings us a New Moon, meaning there will be very little moonlight to compete with the stars.
So why not combine a Saturday morning out with a little bit of stargazing later? Come and enjoy a coffee, pick your favourite cake and perhaps take a stroll before heading home. Then, if the skies are clear in the evening, find somewhere away from the lights and see whether you can spot a shooting star. ⭐
This week’s cake line-up:
🍪 Sarah’s Almond Cookies: Crunchy, nutty and very difficult to stop at just one.
🎃 Sarah’s Pumpkin & Ginger Cupcakes: A little taste of autumn, with ginger adding a lovely bit of spice.
🍫 Carolyn’s Chocolate Cake: Because no cake counter is complete without a proper chocolate cake.
🍋 Judith’s Vanilla Sponge with Lemon Buttercream: Light, buttery sponge with a zingy lemon filling.
🍯 Rebecca’s Sticky Toffee Blondies: All the sticky-toffee goodness, in blondie form.
🥥 Kate’s Chocolate & Coconut Flapjack: Chocolate, coconut and flapjack goodness, with dairy-free and non-gluten ingredients.
🥕 Nicki’s Carrot Cake: A St John’s favourite, packed with all the good stuff.
☕ Jackie’s Coffee & Walnut Cake: A classic combination that needs no introduction.
Come and enjoy a little bit of Adlington as the weekend gets going, and if Saturday evening gives us clear skies… look up! 🌙✨
