Hello, October! The leaves are turning, the scarves are out and the calendar is quietly reminding us that winter is on its way. After this Saturday, St John’s Coffee Shop will open just four more times this season, with our final day on Saturday 31st October. Then we tuck ourselves away until April 2027, which is a very long time to go without cake.
So if you have been meaning to visit, consider this your friendly nudge. Pick a Saturday, put it in the diary and bring a friend along. Your future self will thank you.
This week’s cakes:
🍪 Sarah’s Almond Cookies: Crisp, nutty and disappearing faster than the autumn daylight.
🥕 Nicki’s Carrot Cake: Spiced, moist and topped with cream cheese icing, the cosy hug you need as the evenings draw in.
🍋 Jackie’s Lemon Drizzle: Zingy and sticky, a last burst of sunshine to see you through October.
🍒 Nicki’s Bakewell Loaf: Cherry, almond and jam in a nostalgic slice, perfect for the season of comfort baking.
🫐 Jane’s Lemon Curd and Blueberry Loaf: Tangy curd and juicy berries prove that autumn can still taste a little bit like summer.
🥥 Andrea’s Coconut Cake: Light and fragrant, it will whisk you somewhere much warmer than Cheshire.
🍰 Bee’s Victoria Sponge: Jam, buttercream and soft sponge, a classic worth making a definite plan for.
🍫 Judith’s Chocolate Cake: Rich and deeply chocolatey, ideal for stocking up before we say goodbye until spring.
Pair your slice with a barista coffee, a pot of tea or a hot chocolate, … and enjoy the company. Don’t leave it until April!
