There’s something about a Bank Holiday weekend that nudges us to slow down… just a little. But Saturday mornings at St John’s have a way of arriving and disappearing before you’ve quite caught your breath, so it’s worth making the most of them.
This week the hatch will be stocked with a great choice of bakes, with something to suit every mood. Golden drizzles, soft crumb, a little crunch here and there, all homemade by members of our community, and all delicious.
We’re open this Saturday, 2nd May, from 10:30 to 13:30. It’s a three-hour window, and the cake rarely lasts the full distance. So if you’ve got your eye on a particular slice (or two), arriving sooner rather than later is always a good idea.
On the cake stand this week:
🍋 Jackie’s Lemon Drizzle Cake: bright, zesty, and glistening with that irresistible sugary crust.
🥕 Nicki’s Carrot Cake: gently spiced, beautifully soft, and rich in all the right ways.
🍌 Andrea’s Banana Cake: soft, comforting, and exactly the kind of bake that feels like a treat and a hug at the same time.
☕ Jackie’s Coffee and Walnut Cake: a classic done properly, with that rich coffee warmth and a satisfying crunch in every bite.
🌰 Sarah’s Almond Cookies: light, crumbly, and quietly, dangerously moreish.
🍡 Kate’s Marshmallow Cornflake Tray Bake: golden, sticky, and full of crunch and joy.
💚 Rebecca’s Pistachio and White Chocolate Cake: a showstopper, with those delicate green tones and a sweet, nutty finish.
So as the Bank Holiday weekend gets underway, why not make St John’s part of it? Come early, take a moment to admire the spread before making your impossible decision, and settle in for a while.
Three hours only. They do go quickly.
