England booked their place in the last 16 of the FIFA World Cup with a hard-earned 2-1 comeback victory over DR Congo, as Harry Kane struck twice to send the Three Lions through. There were a few nervous moments along the way, but England fans can enjoy the weekend knowing that our World Cup journey continues.
The next stop is Mexico and a very early Monday morning date with the famous Azteca Stadium. It promises to be a tough test, with Mexico losing just twice there in the last 56 years, and England will also have to cope with playing at an altitude of 2,200 metres. But that’s a challenge for another day. For now, we’re celebrating England’s progress the best way we know how… with coffee and cake!
This week’s team sheet:
🥕 Nicki’s Carrot Cake: Steady, reliable and always worthy of a place in the starting eleven.
🍋 Jackie’s Lemon Drizzle: A slice with enough zing to wake you up for the early Monday kick-off.
🍪 Sarah’s Almond Cookies: Delicious treats that disappear almost as quickly as match tickets.
🍩 Rebecca’s Strawberry Jam & Cinnamon Sugar Doughnut Cake: A winning combination that’s guaranteed to score for sweet lovers.
🍰 Andrea’s Plum Jam & Buttercream Victoria Sandwich: A classic British favourite that never lets the side down.
🍫 Bee’s Chocolate Cake: Rich enough to deserve a standing ovation from chocolate fans.
🍎 Carolyn’s Apple & Cinnamon Cake: Comfort in cake form, whatever football emotions the week has brought.
🍪 Rebecca’s Chocolate Button Shortbread: Small but mighty, with chocolate buttons that make every bite a winner.
Whether you’ve been cheering England all week or you’re simply looking for a relaxing Saturday morning, pop in for a hot drink, a slice of cake and a friendly chat before the next chapter of England’s World Cup adventure begins.
